Set Up the Messenger Get Started Button

The Messenger Get Started button is the very first thing a new user sees when they open a chat with your Facebook page. When they tap it, Dynamo sends the welcome message you configure here — a great way to greet people and kick off an automated flow.

This tutorial walks through activating the button, choosing a message type, and composing the greeting new users receive.

Watch the full walkthrough, or follow the step-by-step guide below.

Before you start

  • A connected Facebook channel (see the "Connect a Channel" tutorial).
  • Access to the FB Messenger tools in the Dynamo sidebar.
  1. 1

    Open the Get Started page

From the left sidebar, under FB Messenger, click Get Started. This opens the Messenger Get Started page, where you configure the button that greets new users in Messenger.

The header explains you can add a "Get Started" button to the Messenger first screen — when a new user opens a chat with your Facebook page, they will see this button.

FB Messenger → Get Started in the sidebar.
  2. 2

    Choose the channel

At the top of the card, use the channel selector to pick the Facebook page this button applies to (for example "Prod.test.tom10"). The Get Started button is configured per channel.

  3. 3

    Activate Messenger Get Started

Turn on the Activate Messenger Get Started toggle. When active, the toggle turns green and the message settings below become editable.

While the toggle is off, the form is dimmed and the button will not appear to new users.

Tip: If your greeting is not showing in Messenger, first confirm this toggle is switched on for the correct channel.

Off: the toggle is grey and the form is disabled.
On: the toggle is green and the form is editable.
  4. 4

    Pick a message type

Under Message type, open the dropdown to choose what kind of message the button sends. Options include Regular message, Direct opt-in, Carousel, and Offer.

For a simple text greeting, keep Regular message selected. The other types let you request subscription opt-in, show a swipeable carousel, or present an offer.

    Compose the welcome message

Fill in the Title and message body that new users will receive. You can enrich it with media using Upload Media or the Assets creator, and use the toolbar icons to insert personalization tags, emojis, and saved snippets.

The character counter (0 / 640) tracks message length as you type.

    Add buttons and save

Optionally add interactive buttons to the message with Add Button, or reuse a previously saved one with Load Button.

When you are happy with the greeting, click Save to publish it. Your Get Started button is now live for new Messenger conversations.

    Add Button and Load Button.
Click Save to publish the button.

That's it — your Get Started button is live!

New users who open a chat with your page will now see the Get Started button and receive your welcome message when they tap it. Return here anytime to update the message or switch it off.
