Create a Marketing Message

A marketing message is a broadcast you send to a target audience through a Meta campaign. Creating one has two halves: the message settings (which page, campaign, and audience it goes to) and the message content (the greeting, text, media, and buttons your recipients see).

This tutorial walks through the whole flow, from opening the Marketing Messages page to testing and sending your broadcast.

Watch the full walkthrough, or follow the step-by-step guide below.

Before you start

  • A connected Facebook Page and Meta Ad Account.
  • An existing Campaign to send under (see the "Create a Campaign" tutorial).
  • A Meta custom audience to target (see the "Create a Meta Audience" tutorial).
  1. 1

    Open the Marketing Messages page

From the left sidebar, under Marketing Tools, click Marketing messages. This page lists every broadcast and is where you send targeted messages to your audience through Meta campaigns.

Use the search box or the status filter to find existing messages, or click New Message to start a fresh one.

Marketing Tools → Marketing messages in the sidebar.
Search, filter, and the New Message button.
  2. 2

    Name your message

Clicking New Message opens the New Marketing Message dialog. Settings live on the left; the message content preview is on the right.

Start by giving the message a clear Message Name so you can recognize it later in the list.

  3. 3

    Choose the channel and campaign

Under Channel & Campaign, pick the Facebook Page the message is sent from, then the Ads Account that will be billed.

Finally select the Campaign the message runs under — the dialog shows its budget type (for example "Lifetime $40.00"). Use the copy button beside it to duplicate the campaign reference if needed.

Tip: Auto Retry (a later step) only works with lifetime-budget campaigns, so choose the campaign type with that in mind.

  4. 4

    Set the target audience

In Target Audience, choose a Target type (for example Custom Audience), then select the specific Custom Audience to send to.

You must select an ad account first — until you do, the Custom Audience field shows "Select an ad account first."

  5. 5

Optional: secondary audience and auto retry

Toggle Secondary target audience if you want to send to an additional audience alongside the primary one.

Toggle Auto Retry to automatically re-attempt failed deliveries. Per the help tooltip, failed messages are re-tried every 2 hours for up to 8 hours, only for users who have not received the message yet, and only for lifetime-budget campaigns.

    Add the message content

On the right side, under Message Content, click Add Message to build the reply (or Load from library to reuse a saved one).

In the Add Message dialog, pick a Message Type. Single notification is the default; other options include Interactive notification, Reply-Enabling Message, Carousel, Offers, Coupon, and Gifts. Some types are Facebook only.

    Write the greeting and body

Optionally add a Greeting message — a short personal line sent before the reply. Then write the main message in the Title field.

Use Upload Media or Assets creator to attach an image, and use the toolbar icons to insert emojis and personalization tokens.

    Personalize with tokens

Click the @ icon in a text field to insert a personalization token such as @[user_name]. Dynamo replaces the token with each recipient’s real value when the message is sent.

Watch the character counter — tokens count toward the field limit (for example 12 / 80 here).

Tip: Personalized greetings like "Hi @[user_name]!" typically improve open and reply rates.

Add an image and mind the safe zone

When you attach an image, use the crop, edit, and delete controls beneath it to adjust it. The blue mark shows the safe zone — keep all key content inside it.

Note that adding an image limits how much text you can add to the reply, and you can add a Subtitle below the title.

    Add buttons

Use Add Button to attach a call to action, Load Button to reuse a saved one, or Add unsubscribe button to give recipients an opt-out.

For a link button, choose an action such as "Open in Messenger browser", optionally tick Use raw URL, then set the Button text and destination URL.

Tip: Some users have trouble opening links inside the Messenger browser — advise them to choose "Open in external browser" if a page fails to load.

    Test, then create and send

Click Done to save the message content, then Create to save the whole marketing message. It now appears on the Marketing Messages page.

Always Test Message first — the app recommends testing on Android, iOS, and desktop before sending. When you are confident, click Send Marketing Message, and track results in Last Send Insights.

That's it — your marketing message is ready to send!

Always run Test Message on Android, iOS, and desktop before hitting Send Marketing Message. Track results afterwards in Last Send Insights.
