Create a Meta Audience

A Meta audience is a custom list of people you can target with your marketing messages. In Dynamo you create an audience, fill it with contacts (by uploading a CSV or connecting an external data source), and choose the rule that controls who receives a message.

This tutorial covers the full flow: opening the Meta Audience page, creating an audience, adding its data, setting audience conditions, and confirming the audience is ready to use.

Watch the full walkthrough, or follow the step-by-step guide below.

Before you start

  • Access to a Dynamo workspace with a connected Meta (Facebook) Ad Account.
  • A contact list ready as a CSV file, or credentials for an external source (S3, Braze, or Klaviyo).
  1. 1

    Open the Meta Audience page

From the left sidebar, under Audience, click Meta Audience. This page is where you manage all of your Meta custom audiences.

The header reads "Audiences — Manage your Meta custom audiences", and just below it you can pick the Channel and Ad Account the audiences belong to.

Audience → Meta Audience in the left sidebar.
  2. 2

Pick an account and open the toolbar

Select the Channel (or leave it on "Show All") and the Ad Account you want the audience created under — the account sets billing and currency.

Below that you have a search box to find audiences by name or ID, an "All statuses" filter, a sort control ("Newest first"), and the New Audience button. If nothing exists yet, you will see "No audiences match your filters".

Search, status filter, sort, and the New Audience button.
  3. 3

    Create a new audience

Click New Audience to open the Create Audience dialog.

Give the audience a clear Audience name (required), optionally add a Description, then confirm the Channel. When ready, click Create Audience.

Tip: Name audiences by who is in them (for example "Friends mixed emails & phones") so they are easy to recognize when selecting one for a message.

Audience name — the only required field.
Confirm the channel, then click Create Audience.
  4. 4

Add contacts by uploading a CSV

Your new audience starts in the "New" state with an empty file. In the Audience file section, click Upload CSV to add your contact list.

You can upload multiple files, and their users will be added to your existing list. Use the help (?) button next to the section to check the required file structure — it must match the format below.

    CSV file structure

Use the same CSV structure as the example below. The file needs exactly two columns, in this order:

    • 1Column 1: email. The user’s email address.
    • 2Column 2: phone number. Always include this column, even if you are uploading only phone numbers.

    Expected phone format

Only digits — remove all symbols, letters, and any leading zeros.

Upload CSV or Import from external source.

Or import from an external source

Instead of a CSV, click Import from external source to open the Connect a Data Source dialog and pull contacts directly from your tools.

Choose one of the available sources: Link CSV bucket (S3), Link to Braze segment, or Link to Klaviyo, then follow the connection steps for that source.

    Set the audience conditions

Click Edit on the Audience conditions panel to choose a sending condition for the audience.

Pick one: Send to all delivers to everyone in the audience; Send only once delivers a maximum of one message per user; and the last option only delivers to users who have not received a message in the last N days. Set the number of days, then click Save.

Tip: Use the "haven't received in the last N days" option to avoid over-messaging the same people across campaigns.

    The three sending conditions.
    Save your selected condition.
  7. 7

    Verify the audience is ready

Once the file is processed and matched against Meta, the audience status changes to "Ready". The card shows the match rate (for example "297/376 (79%)") and when it was last updated.

From here you can Refresh Facebook tokens if the connection expires, upload a new CSV, review the audience conditions, or Delete the audience.

Match rate: how many contacts Meta matched.

That's it — your Meta audience is ready!

Once the status shows Ready, you can select this audience when sending a marketing message. Head back to explore more Dynamo tutorials.
